SEND & CALL - ADULT & PAEDIATRIC
If you believe your patient needs life or limb saving treatment that can only be provided at Leeds General Infirmary then:
  • First priority is to organise 999 transfer while stabilising the patient as best you can
  • Don't forget simple measures: tranexamic acid if indicated, splinting of limbs / pelvis etc
  • If the patient is bleeding significantly then use EARLY blood product resuscitation following a massive transfusion approach
  • Reverse warfarin with vit K and octaplex / beriplex.
  • Antibiotics for open fractures
  • First call to the MTC should be to the ED consultant in charge.
  • If time allows please contact relevant specialties.
  • REMEMBER: YOU are making the decision to SEND the patient. Acceptance by the MTC will be AUTOMATIC

THIS GUIDANCE COVERS ADULTS & CHILDREN

Typical examples would include:

Extradural haematoma with reduced GCS
Aortic injuries
Acutely ischaemic limbs despite reduction of fractures
Spinal fracture with new neurological impairment
Ongoing bleeding that can't be managed at the Trauma Unit
