TXA in Traumatic Brain Injury

Patients with a head injury and a GCS of 12 or less who
For patients suspected to have significant extracranial bleeding as a result of trauma:
Give a 1g bolus of TXA if within 3 hours of injury, followed by a 1g infusion over 8 hours. If age under 16 give a 15mg/kg bolus (maximum 1g) followed by a 2mg/kg/hour infusion over 8 hours (to a maximum of 1g).
Patients with a head injury and a GCS of 12 or less who
- Are within 2 hours of injury
- AND are not thought thought to have active extracranial bleeding
For patients suspected to have significant extracranial bleeding as a result of trauma:
Give a 1g bolus of TXA if within 3 hours of injury, followed by a 1g infusion over 8 hours. If age under 16 give a 15mg/kg bolus (maximum 1g) followed by a 2mg/kg/hour infusion over 8 hours (to a maximum of 1g).
