Why no transfers after 2200?

Patients should not be transferred overnight for non-time critical interventions to prevent undue strain & risk to the patient, the ambulance service and the MTC ED. A patient with an open lower limb fracture that requires non-immediate MTC care who won't reach the MTC ED by 2200 should:
  • Be admitted under the care of the TU orthopaedic team
  • Have all appropriate initial care for an open fracture
  • Be transferred to the MTC ED first thing the following morning (aiming to arrive between 0800 and 0900)
